Fish oil might be the most talked-about supplement on the shelf — and for good reason. How Much Do You Actually Need?
General population guidance from major health bodies typically recommends around 250–500mg combined EPA+DHA per day for general health maintenance. Higher amounts are sometimes used clinically for specific conditions like elevated triglycerides — but those higher doses should be guided by a doctor, not self-prescribed.
Whole food sources (fatty fish 2–3 times a week) can meet this for many people without supplementation at all.
